Welcome to the wanderings and ramblings of Baitdigger where I try to share experiences and photographs of my continuing sea angling journey around the coastline of County Clare and South Wales
From tope and huss on the heavy gear in the North of the county, rays from the Shannon, conger and wrasse from the rocks and more recently lure fishing from the much under-rated and unexplored Clare coastline. Read my weekly whines about the lack of mackerel and the twelve months of mild winter that make up Ireland’s weather. Read updates bemoaning crowded beaches, uncontrolled children and unruly dogs in South Wales and my search for fish in one of Britain’s truly stunning coastlines.
Born in England I moved to Ireland’s West Coast to take care of my parents and fell in love with the wildness of the Burren and it’s miles of unspoilt coastline.
I started fishing with my father over fifty years ago but I am a firm believer that everyone has something to teach me especially in the steep learning curve of modern lure fishing for bass.My camera has become an essential part of my fishing gear and I am just has happy taking snaps as catching fish. It started with a panasonic lumix dmc, which was covered in mackerel scales and wrapped in a tea towel, it has gone through several Nikon regenerations and I am currently using a D750 but it is still covered in fish scales and wrapped in a teatowel
All opinions are my own arising from what has or hasn’t worked for me. Any criticism of tackle brands are just as I find them and I leave you to decide for yourselves what suits your needs and as ever I value comments both positive and negative.
And finally many of my posts may be tinged with a touch of tongue in cheek so please accept them in the spirit they were written.
Neil

Day 58…..blogging?
Blogging for me was a simple choice. When my ankle was broken in hospital I had to look for an alternative career as the chances of returning to carpentry at the time looked slim. The original operation to re-build my … Continue reading
Day 57…..No Friday feeling.
The Friday feeling just isn’t there. No crunchy day. All you ‘Auld Wans’ will remember the reference. No poets day (one for the chippies out there) Around 4pm (past morning) the girl child found me in my workshop tidying my … Continue reading
Day 55… Business as usual?
Three in the afternoon and the Girl child tells me that she has to go see the Witch, to take bread and milk because the old girl can’t get out. I asked her if she needed money and she said … Continue reading
Day 53….. here we go again
With little else important to do and an ever expanding waistline I left the house for some much needed solo exercise. Opting for the riverside woodland ride I headed to the mountains. As I rode I looked, not just glanced … Continue reading
Day 52 …..Czech Nymphing?
You can fish… for as long as you like, but not at night and you cant drive there….. so that leaves trout in the local rivers. I was having a chat yesterday with my butty Wayne who was telling … Continue reading
Day 51… jumped the gun then?….
Angling Cymru or the Federation of Welsh Anglers trading as Angling Cymru is in their own words the umbrella body representing recreational angling in Wales, recognised by Sport Wales & Welsh Government. Earlier in the week they stated that we could … Continue reading
Day 50?…. and chaos reigns
And on the third day of fishing ? It is much as expected. The government tells us we can fish? stay local, shortest journey possible? For many that is an hour in the car but it still complies with the … Continue reading
Day 49….and I thought I was confused yesterday?
Define local ? A five minute walk? five minutes in the car? within the same postcode? The Welsh Assembly has now followed Bojo’s advice and is allowing us back fishing. The positive effect of this will come as a welcome … Continue reading
Day 48….. more confusion?
Almost too confused for words today. Can we go? can we drive? Why does a directive from the Prime Minister over-rule a devolved decision on some matters and not on others? We will just have to wait and see. Even … Continue reading
Day 47….Dad, you’re such a knacker….
Bass fishing from the rocks Cameras do lie, or they can be made to. If I had taken this image from the other side it would have shown Tom standing safely on a prominent rock with spray breaking over … Continue reading
