Welcome to the Wanderings of Baitdigger
My fishing journey began around fifty years ago when I would go to a local pond with my father early mornings before he went to work. On one of these trips I proudly caught a small carp which I lovingly placed in my fathers keepnet. When my mother arrived in the family car to pick us up I pulled out the net only to be greeted in horror by a gaping hole and no fish. I have spent the rest of my life trying to replace the fish lost as a young boy.
My journey took me from the lakes and rivers of Surrey for carp, pike and still-water trout on the fly to the coast of Sussex and holidays in Hastings to a new world of sea fish. After moving to South Wales I spent my time between Barbel on the Taff and rays and hounds on the coast.
By accident I was fortunate enough to find myself living on the West Coast of Ireland my life long passion continued…….then though a twist of fate my family headed back to South Wales to face the further challenges of life.
Thank you for joining in my fishing journey through the county of Clare and the coast of South Wales
In Clare we have one of the largest coastlines in Ireland. In summer it is spectacular in winter it is daunting and hostile. I hope to use this space to collect pictures, thoughts and experiences I have gathered in my continuing fishing journey through the county.
I hope to be able to share the methods and baits that bring success for the many species that inhabit our coastline, from tope and huss in the North, the wrasse and rays in the South West and a little bit of bassing on baits and lures through out the county.
